“Operation Clean” is one of Sloane Ketcham’s  “soul purposes”.  Sloane Ketcham is the President of Final Touch Cleaning Services, Hawaii.  Operation Clean is a program that offers 1 Free Residential Cleaning per month for a year to a deserving military family.  The military family must be nominated by a friend or family member and that nomination must be accompanied with a letter explaining why this family deserves to be apart of the program.  The winner will receive a 3 hour cleaning, once a month for a year, which will consist of their regular residential services.  It’s important to note that Final Touch Cleaning Services specializes in private and government contract cleaning.  Most of their Residential Cleaning is limited to Move-Outs and Deep Cleaning.  Most of the Maid Service they provide is FREE through Programs such as Operation Clean and Cleaning For a Reason.

Final Touch Cleaning Services is looking for a family that has a  family member that is deployed, or serving in different location.  Preference will be given to families that have financial need.  Our ideal recipient would be a spouse that is busy with work and kids, and everything else and is still able to exude a positive attitude! The deadline to accept nominations will be DECEMBER 18th @ 5PM.  The winner will be announced DECEMBER 23rd!

Sloane is a mom of three, military spouse, business owner, and actively involved in her community.  Her husband has served in Iraq and Korea, she knows first hand that a little help can go a long way.   But too often than not, military spouses and their partners don’t ask for help! Hiring a cleaning company for your office, bank, or any professional establishment, is an important decision.  Business owners, property, and facility managers want to find the best most cost efficient cleaning company to provide janitorial maintenance solutions.  There are so many different cleaning companies promising that they are the best! Getting a great referral is always a great place to start, but even then, you’ll want to know what to ask, to separate the professionals from the amateurs.  Below you will find the 7 most important things you should know before hiring a commercial cleaning company.

1. What’s your bottom line, and would it be more cost effective to do it yourself, have an employee do it, or hire an in-house cleaner? Before you start the process of accepting bids.  It’s important to know what your bottom line is.  Hiring a professional cleaning company is not cheap.  The old saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” and it rings true in hiring a cleaning service.  Could you clean yourself? This would be the most cost effective way to slash your cleaning budget, but consider that your time is valuable.  Calculate your own hourly worth, and really ask yourself if it’s advantageous to spend your precious time emptying trash and scrubbing toilets.  Another option is to have your employees clean, if this is not an added burden to their already busy days, then this option can really save you money.  And the last possibility is hiring an in-house cleaner, keep in mind that with that option, you would be responsible for payroll taxes etc.  Carefully weigh all your options, and calculate all scenarios once you begin accepting bids.
2. Simply asking if a cleaning company is licensed, insured and bonded is not enough. Get proof, request a certificate of good standing from the State of Hawaii, and a copy of their bond and General Liability.  Look for the company limits on their General Liability, and make sure the limits are to your liking and ask what their bonding limits are. When getting estimates for a commercial cleaning job, one of the ways you’ll be able to tell if a company is licensed, insured, and bonded is their hourly rate.  Of course, you’ll be able to find cleaning for considerably lower than the going rate if you hire a company with no protection.  Don’t do it.  We’ve seen first hand and have heard of the costly situations business owners have put themselves in, to try to save a few bucks…trust us, it’s not worth it!
3. How are employees trained, and do they have current background checks! Commercial cleaners often clean offices during non working hours.  This requires a lot of trust on the part of business owners and their employees.  It’s important to know that the company you are hiring runs criminal background checks on their employees every 6 months or less.  Not just upon hiring.  This commitment to providing qualified employees should never be underestimated.   Ask for a detailed explanation of the company’s hiring policy, and don’t be shy to ask for a copy of the employee policy.  Professional cleaning companies, should only hire experienced cleaners.
4. What does the commercial cleaning company’s quality control plan include. You’ll want to examine the quality control plan thoroughly.  The quality control plan should take the guess work out of what to expect.  The QCP is a concise set of policies and procedures that are implemented to enure a clients satisfaction is always maintained!  The QCP should provide a standard measure of quality assurance which ensures that problems are handled before a client becomes aware.  No one is perfect and because humans are not robots, there is room for error.  A good QCP should anticipate problems and solve them before they become an issue.   A client should never have to worry, or complain about the quality of services.

6. Green cleaning vs Traditional chemicals? 7. What additional services does the cleaning company provide? Will you need floor care, windows washed, or carpets cleaned.  If so, be sure to get a quote for everything and clear recommendations as to how often these extra services will be performed.  You’ll also want to know if the cleaning company will be contracting those services to a vendor, or if they provide, for example, carpet cleaning as a regular service.  If the cleaning company is contracting additional services like carpet cleaning, be aware that there could be a mark up, that is passed onto you, the client.It’s not done all the time, but the best thing to do is ask.
